Matthew Clark partners with Marco Pierre White for 2016 tasting

Published:  23 February, 2016

Legendary British chef Marco Pierre White will be joining leading UK on-trade distributor Matthew Clark at its Discover Love Inspire trade tasting on March 8.

White will be hosting an exclusive masterclass at the event focusing on food-and-wine matching.

He will be demonstrating how to pair premium ingredients such as lobster with wines from a variety of producers represented by Matthew Clark.

The producers will include Ceres from Central Otago, Jean Luc Colombo from the Rhône, and Mosel's Dr Loosen.

White said: "I have been working with Matthew Clark for years - they work with an impressive range of producers which are always popular in my restaurants, and I look forward to being involved in this dynamic and exciting tasting to showcase how food and wine complement each other."

Kenny Gray, national accounts managing director at Matthew Clark, said: "It's such an honour to have Marco Pierre White join us at Discover Love Inspire this year demonstrating the versatility of some of our favourite wines.

"Demand for quirkier grape varieties and regions along with appetites for smaller producers has really shaped up our wine offering over the last twelve months and we're in a better position than ever before to be able to exclusively cater for top-end premium accounts."

Discover Love Inspire will be Matthew Clark's largest showcase to date, with some 30% of the wines being exhibited new to its portfolio.

Over the last 12 months, the company has experienced significant growth in a range of market segments, with sales to boutique hotels and top food venues up by 12%,  and sales to quality locals up by 21%.

New premium clients for the distributor include the Q hotels group, Conrad St James, Hilton Bankside, and the Berners Tavern, as well as restaurants in Marco Pierre White's Black and White Hospitality group.

Black and White currently has 25 restaurants across the UK operating under the Steakhouse Bar & Grill, Wheeler's of St James's and New York Italian brands.
