WSTA urges alcohol tax cut ahead of Autumn Budget

In one sense, the unusually high levels of mergers and acquisitions (M&A) in the drinks trade right now are a worrying sign. The number of deals occurring is a direct reflection of the often-mentioned pressures currently bearing down on the industry as it faces one of the most challenging periods in its history. For companies, as Steve Nemeth, director of consumer M&A at investment bank Cavendish, puts it: “Growth, consumer behaviour and the economics of operating a drinks business are uniquely all changing simultaneously.”

Diageo slashes dividends as drinks giant struggles

Diageo has unveiled its results for the first half of the financial year up to 31 December 2025, with the company reporting declining sales. Organic net sales were down 2.8% while it has set a new minimum floor for its dividend of 50 cent per year, which compares to the 103.48 US cents per share it paid out for FY25.

Treasury Wine Estates hit with $649m AUD loss in H1
