Whispering Angel has by any measure been an extraordinary success, helping energise the whole rosé category and doing so while persuading happy punters to part with over £20 of their hard-earned cash. Since its conception, when Sacha Lichine acquired Château d’Esclans in 2006 and famously created this ‘luxury’ brand, Provençal rosé has seen such significant growth that winemakers in regions as diverse as Navarra, the Cape and Mclaren Vale have aped the distinctively pale style. All of which is pretty good going for a category that, until recently, was considered a simple summery quaffer – and even more so when set against the falling consumption of more ‘serious’ wines.

Data released from parent company LVMH shows that its wine and spirits division Moët Hennessey has seen a year on year drop in revenue when comparing to Q1 2025 to Q1 2024, driven by a poor performance for its cognac and spirits brands.
