This month will see the launch of the UK’s first organic, vegan, alcohol-free sparkling wine, its producers claim.
The drink, named Noughty, is the brainchild of entrepreneur Amanda Thomson, founder of Thomson & Scott, the company behind the launches of Skinny Champagne and Skinny Prosecco.
Noughty is produced with 100% organic Chardonnay grapes, and its wine is de-alcoholised using a patented technique without any additional sugar or artificial aromas.
Thomson said: “There is a huge amount of evidence to show that consumers are drinking less alcohol and looking for top quality alternatives in beer and spirits.
“Sales of non-alcoholic drinks are exploding and the global non-alcoholic market is anticipated to reach an estimated $1.6 trillion by 2025, with millennials and ‘Gen Z’ers’ drinking less than older generations, in part because they live their lives online and want to retain control of their image and social standing.
“However, no-one was tackling the alcohol-free wine sector to cater to the next generation of wine drinkers who don’t want to consume alcohol. We’re therefore excited to be the first to produce a delicious, luxe, alcohol-free sparkling wine that is also 100% organic and vegan certified.”
Noughty will be available through both the on- trade and off-trade, with initial outlets including Brewdog bars, Planet Organic, Amazon, Harvey Nichols and via the Thomson & Scott website.
It will launch at London Food Tech Week on 21 May, where Amanda Thomson will be also a keynote speaker.
Thomson and Scott’s organic and vegan sparkling wines are expanding their international distribution and are available in a range of countries including the US, South Africa and New Zealand. The company recently launched its Sparkler Rosé frizzante in small 100% recyclable cans.
