Rousset heads to Champagne for first in wine tour series

Published:  31 January, 2018

Master sommelier and restaurateur Xavier Rousset is preparing to host a guided tour of Champagne that will include tastings, blending sessions and access to the region’s most prestigious producers.

Guests will be treated to a blending session, tour and lunch at Gosset before being given a private behind the scenes tour of Champagne Tattinger in Reims.

They can also expect Michelin star food at the restaurant La Briqueterie, a gastronomic dinner at Champagne Lallier and a tasting session at AR Lenoble.

The tour, which takes place from the 8 to 10 March, will be the first of a series guided trips Rousset plans to conduct this year, with other excursions planned in Alsace, Burgundy and Piedmont.

Late last year Rousset founded wine club Pinot & Chardo, giving members discounts on fine wine, access to winemakers’ dinners and tastings and other wine related perks.

Rousset began his career at Hotel du Vin, where he served as the group’s chief sommelier from 1999 to 2004. In 2002 he became the world’s youngest master sommelier.

In 2004, he joined Raymond Blanc’s Michelin-starred Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons as head sommelier before becoming a restaurateur in 2007 with the opening of Texture in Marylebone.

Texture went on to win a Michelin star and within three years Rousset had opened 28-50 Wine Workshop & Kitchen on Fetter Lane, before expanding into several sites around London.

In 2016, he opened Blandford Comptoir in the Marylebone, then Cabotte in the City, with fellow master sommelier Gearoid Devaney, and Mayfair’s Comptoir Café & Wine in April 2017.

The Champagne tour is priced from £595 per person based on two people sharing, with discounts available for Pinot & Chardo members.
