Berkmann Wine Cellars has appointed Emma Dawson MW as senior wine buyer.
In her new role, Dawson will be responsible for regional France, including Bordeaux, Loire, Alsace and Jura, South and Central America as well as premium producers from Southern Italy.
In addition, using her “specialist knowledge” of emerging regions, she will look to develop the Berkmann's portfolio further into areas such as the Eastern Mediterranean, Middle East and Asia.
Having previously worked with Marks & Spencer for nine years in several buying areas, prior to which she worked within Sainsbury’s wine department, Dawson would bring a “new valuable skill set to the team”, said Berkmann.
Dawson said she was looking forward to becoming part of the “continuing transformation at Berkmann that has seen it double in turnover in the past five years”.
“The strong ethos of quality and value sets this company apart from its competitors. With our strengthened buying team, I’m sure there will be plenty more we can deliver in the coming years,” she said.
Dawson, who takes on her new position with immediate effect, joins fellow MW Alex Hunt, who joined Berkmann in 2006 as purchasing director.
The appointment of Dawson, who completed of her MW in March 2017, follows Berkmann hiring Guillem Kerambrun as director of fine wine & private clients last January.
