Consorzio Franciacorta has elected Silvano Brescianini as its new president.
Brescianin, general manager of Barone Pizzini and former consortium vice president in charge of technical development and research since 2009, takes over from Vittorio Moretti - the owner of Bellavista and Contadi Castaldi who has guided the institution for the past three years.
At the same time, Laura Gatti and Francesco Franzini have been elected vice presidents.
During his term in office, Brescianin said he would continue to build on what his colleagues had done before him.
“I closely cooperated with them during my nine years as vice president. Franciacorta is part of my DNA. My passion for this area has been with me my entire life. I feel very proud that my journey will now continue in my role as president,” he said.
The “main guidelines” would be inspired by the work done with professor Domenico De Masi, he added.
“The research effort provided important indications about the prospects of Franciacorta and, most importantly, the significance of teamwork and cohesion. Although both already characterize our distinctive approach, they must become the driving force in the promotion of our wine and area. There are many pending projects, but there is no doubt that special attention will be focused on export markets and environmental protection.”
Born in 1967 in Erbusco, at the center of Franciacorta, Brescianini grew up in the wine cellars. After spending his childhood in the vineyards, he trained as a sommelier and made his debut in the restaurant industry, from where he transitioned to Barone Pizzini, first as a partner and restaurant manager and later on as managing director.
Overall sales volumes of Franciacorta wine are up 2.2% yeasr-on-year, while value increased 7.4%, with exports having risen 5.6% to 14.4%, according to data from the Business Observatory, which shows "positive trends" across all retail channels, said the consortium.
Moretti said: “While my journey as president of this consortium ends today, I am sure the journey of Franciacorta and its wines has just begun, and the added contribution from our younger members will give us the impetus we need to propel us towards extraordinary new goals.”
