Litmus Wines has expanded the international reach of its hybrid wine and gin Ginking brand to Switzerland just a year after launch.
Introduced to the UK market 12 months ago, Ginking will be distributed exclusively by Bataillard in Switzerland, marking the third export market for the tipple, which was launched into Canada and Germany earlier this year.
Bataillard, which claims to be the largest wholesaler and third largest importer of alcoholic drinks in Switzerland, said it was the “perfect partner” for Ginking in terms of marketing, selling and building the brand.
“As soon as we saw Ginking we fell in love with the concept and the packaging and when we got a sample to taste we were not disappointed,” said Martin Luther, wine importer at Bataillard.
Available in the UK from Fortnum & Mason, Vinoteca and Fenwick (rsp: £13), Litmus said it was “quietly confident” that Ginking - a lower abv spirit-based drink consisting of white wine grown in England, London Dry Gin & mineral water - would soon be taken on by a Californian importer.
John Worontschak, Litmus Wines MD and founder, said the initial success of Ginking, which is packaged in a traditional sparkling wine bottle with cork and wire with the label playing on the feel of the English Imperial past, was down to the drink tapping into three growth categories – sparkling wine, gin and lower abv.
