Benevolent bike ride in memory of Dan Townsend raises £13,000

An impressive £13,000 was raised by the peloton of riders that participated in the charity bike ride that took place Sunday in memory of Dan Townsend - the late managing director at Treasury Wine Estates (TWE).

A total of 30 riders signed up to participate in the 100km bike ride from Ridgeview Wine Estate in the South Downs to TWE’s headquarters in Twickenham, which was by organised Andrew Shaw, group wine buying director at Conviviality and Philp Tuck MW, wine director at Hatch Mansfield.

David Cox, chief executive of drinks trade charity The Benevolent, said the activity was “yet another example of how this wonderful trade comes together as a true community in order to help others”.

“I would like to thank everyone involved but especially all the incredibly generous donors - you have made a real difference”.”

The group was welcomed at its arrival in Twickenham by Dan’s wife, Mel Townsend and his daughter Rose, together with a crowd of friends and family members.

Townsend, who enjoyed a long career in the in the drinks industry, including a stint as chairman of The Benevolent, sadly passed away earlier this year.
