French wine producer Vinadeis and South Africa's Origin Wines have signed a formal strategic partnership.
Aimed initially at the bulk wine market, the partnership will take advantage of the two companies' complementary global strengths to offer customers an end-to-end service across key national markets in Europe and the southern hemisphere.
Vinadeis and Origin will distribute each other's wines in their major markets.
The partnership offers both companies economies of scale, while also consolidating their respective positions through a secure and consistent supply of wine from many of the world's leading wine-producing territories.
Bertrand Girard, chief executive of Vinadeis: "With this new partnership, we are completing our already sizable offer of old world wine. It follows on the strategy, put in place since 2011 and, now supported by InVivo wine, with a clear and defined ambition to build a major "viti-vinicole" player and the biggest French winery, from the vine to the glass, acting directly into the markets."
Bernard Fontannaz, chief executive of Origin Wine, said: "It makes sense and it is going into the direction taken by the market whereby concentration and rationalisation of the supply base are key.
"It is a partnership of similar skills and intentions which will create a sizeable player, offering in excess of 500 million litres of wine, with a concrete underlying asset and structure to deliver it."
The new partnership will be presented for the first time at the 7th World Bulk Wine Exhibition in Amsterdam on November 23 and 24.
Created in 1967, Vinadeis is the biggest wine producer in France. Formerly known as Val d'Orbieu-Uccoar, the company rebranded earlier this year.
It now has 1,600 winegrowers across 45 estates and châteaux, as well as 12 wineries and 17,000 ha of vineyards. Its annual turnover is £190 million, with a net profit of £2.48 million last year.
Some 27% of its wine is for the export market, and it currently sells to 60 countries worldwide.
The company has recently invested in an 800,000 hl bulk-wine facility in the south of France, which is due to open in January 2016.
Origin Wine was established in 2002 in Stellenbosch.
It now exports some 80 million litres of wine from South Africa, and has operations in Argentina, Chile, Australia and New Zealand.
It opened its first office in North America earlier this year and appointed Barry Dick MW to expand its global sourcing footprint.
