Bodegas Campillo moves from Cellar Trends to Inverarity Morton

Published:  13 June, 2014

Spain's Bodegas Campillo has switched its UK distribution from Cellar Trends to Inverarity Morton to push sales in premium on-trade venues.

The Grupo Faustino owned-brand made the move to keep in line with its international policy of using a separate distributor for Campillo wines, and is looking to Inverarity to help drive sales in top-tier on-trade outlets.

Faustino has not severed all ties with Cellar Trends, rather it retails a strategic shareholding in that business, which remains the distributor for the rest of the Grupo Faustino wines.

The Scottish-based wine and spirits distributor Inverarity recently announced it was taking on the agency for New Zealand winery Amisfield.

Ian Cumming, commercial director at Inverarity Morton, said: "Bodegas Campillo has established a rightful reputation worldwide as one of Spain's premier producers.  They make wines of consistently high quality and we've been fervent ambassadors of the brand for many years. Their wines have always remained extremely popular with our customers and we look forward to taking Bodegas Campillo to new levels in Britain."

Toby Sigouin, Inverarity's wine buyer, added: "The timing could not be better as it coincides with the UK launch of Campillo "El Ni?o" Tinto Joven - a new expression of Campillo and the rebellious younger brother to its barrel-aged stable mates. El Ni?o is an ideal "by the glass" offering and will extend the accessibility of Campillo to a whole new audience and is a great introduction to the rest of the range, and also dispels the myth that a Tinto Joven cannot be premium."

David Robinson, export manager for Bodegas Campillo, said: "At Bodegas Campillo we are very excited about being represented in the UK by a growing and dynamic company such as Inverarity Morton. We were attracted by their strong on-trade presence in Scotland and their agency business in England and Wales. We look forward to working hand in hand to take Bodegas Campillo to a new level in the UK."

Founded in 1990 by Julio Faustino Martinez, Bodegas Campillo is now run by fourth-generation family member, Pilar Martinez Zabala. Inverarity will begin distribution on June 19.
