Wines from Spain turns focus on biodynamic and organic

Published:  03 January, 2019

Wines from Spain has revealed it is adding a green twist to its annual tasting this year with a planned focus on the country’s organic and sustainable winemaking.

For the first time, the annual event will feature a ‘Going Green’ self-pour tasting area where importers will present a selection of organic wines, wines made from organic grapes, as well as wines made using biodynamic and sustainable practices.

The new element would “showcase the evolution” of green and organic winemaking in Spain and provide visitors with a selection of “exciting environmentally-friendly wines” to add to their list, said Wines from Spain.

Other special features of the tasting will include tasting trails presenting on-trade and retail top picks and a programme of tutorials led by expert speakers.

Taking place at London’s Sky Garden 7th March, the event will feature a total of 58 importers and exporters with a selection of around 1,000 wines from 300 wineries available to explore.

This year’s tasting would provide the trade with a "key opportunity" to further explore Spanish wines as well as keep up with recent trends and evolution, said Marianne Rodriguez, assistant director, Wines from Spain.

“There is a lot of energy, innovation and passion found in Spanish wineries today. We are delighted to have so many great importers and exporters presenting their portfolios of quality Spanish wines.”

Doors will open to the public in the evening, with Wines from Spain having teamed up with Square Meal to host a special consumer event for food and wine enthusiasts eager to explore the Spanish wine category.

A programme of tutorials will be released later this month.
