Jascots adds Hungarian producer

Published:  15 October, 2018

Jascots has added Hungarian producer Zsirai to its portfolio.

The wine merchant, which claims to be the first to bring the producer to the UK, will import both dry and sweet Tokaji wines from the winery, which owns 18 hectares of vineyards in Tokaj, Somlo and Villany.

Family-owned, the winery harvests its total production by hand.

The wines were “absolutely the sort of food-friendly, pure, elegant and complex styles” that were so sought after by customers, said Miles MacInnes, managing partner, Jascots.

“Despite their long history, the still wines of Hungary are still an emerging force in the UK market and we are delighted to be representing Zsirai for the first time in the UK.”

The wines made by the winery were “pure, complex and beautifully made”, he added.

“We are focusing on the white wines from Tokaj and Somló for which we are already seeing a great deal of demand and excitement amongst our clients.”

Founded in 1991, jascots has grown to a turnover of over £9 million following a management buyout in 2016, with clients including Temper Restaurants, Social Eating House and Native.
