Inverarity Morton partnership to bring New York wines to the UK

Published:  10 May, 2018

A new partnership between European importer New York Wines and Glasgow-based wine and spirits specialists Inverarity Morton is primed to introduce a new range of wines from New York State to the UK market.

Several producers will feature, spanning three of New York’s six AVA regions: the Finger Lakes, Hudson River Valley and Long Island.

According to the partnership, the wines are being brought to the UK on the back of “growing demand” for wines from the state, particularly the Finger Lakes, which has emerged in recent years as one of the premiere Riesling destinations in the US.

The Inverarity Morton distributed wines include Riesling specialist Red Newt Cellars, Anthony Road, Thirsty Owl Wine Company and Brotherhood – America’s oldest winery.

Grape varieties include Riesling and Cabernet Franc, with a small number of unique hybrids such as Diamond and Traminette.

This marks the first time these wines will be distributed to the UK market with a focus on the on-trade and independents.

Fox Run Winery owner, Scott Osborn, said: “The timing is right. We have had such a strong response from international shows and our Finger Lakes appellation is unique. Everyone knows the New York name, and the excitement is there to learn more about our cool climate estate wines.”

On June 7, a Riesling and hybrids masterclass supported by the New York Wine & Grape Foundation and hosted by Red Newt Cellars winemaker Kelby Russell and Stuart Pigott will be held in central London.

There will also be an open pour tasting of select New York state wines.
