Tesco renews WSET partnership

Published:  15 January, 2018

Tesco has renewed its position as Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET) Gold Corporate Patron as part of its strategy to put education at the forefront.

The renewed partnership sees Tesco taking its place as one of 11 Gold Corporate Patrons among a list of organisations in WSET’s partnership programme, including leading supermarkets, drinks producers and distributors.

Forming part of a wider strategy for the retailer to further educate both staff and customers about the industry, the partnership would “cement Tesco’s position as a wine and spirits market leader”, said Rob Cooke, Tesco BWS category director.

“As the UK’s largest retailer for wines and spirits we have a responsibility to our staff and our customers to offer the best training possible and by working closely with WSET we are able to offer all of our BWS staff a comprehensive wine and spirits education and support the global industry in line with our core business strategy,” he said.

The Corporate Patrons programme was introduced to ensure that WSET receives essential funding to allow it to continue to develop its courses and qualifications, as well as maintain and advance its digital learning facilities and online global campus.

WSET said it was “thrilled’ Tesco had reconfirmed its position as a Gold Corporate Patron.

“Tesco has been a valued supporter of WSET for many years, having seen the benefits that well-educated staff can have on its business and we look forward to continuing our partnership, building on Tesco’s success and working together to drive education to support the future of the industry,” said chief executive, Ian Harris.
