DHL Tradeteam expands logistics infrastructure with new warehouse

Published:  23 June, 2016

Tradeteam, the drinks distribution arm of DHL Supply Chain, has opened new warehousing premises in the south of England to keep up with "strong regional demand in the area".

Specialising in the distribution and warehousing of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages for pubs, supermarkets and the off trade, Tradeteam has invested in a new 200,000 sq ft warehousing facility in Gloucester as part of a continuing expansion strategy.

The company is attempting to keep up with trends including an increased emphasis on smaller order sizes and more frequent deliveries.

"We are seeing increased demands for greater cost efficiencies, high standards of storage that maintain the quality of the product and better service. Consumer drinking trends also mean that there is a demand for logistics suppliers to hold a wider range of stock locally and provide a flexible delivery service to their customers," said James Gill, managing director at Tradeteam.

"The warehouse will be designed to maximise picking efficiency across different pack types enabling us to respond to the industry's demand for more diverse products. Tradeteam is also trialling new technologies such as wearable tracking devices and voice picking to support us in maintaining accuracies in the warehousing process, and we continue to work closely with our customers to understand and respond to challenges."

The warehouse is expected to be fully operational by September 2016.

The new warehouse is in part to keep up with a number of new clients, including Cellar Trends, a premium drinks brand owner and marketer, for which Tradeteam is now its sole distributor.

Tradeteam has also secured a three-year contract with New Zealand-based winemaker Delegat to provide warehousing and distribution services, and a deal to manage secondary distribution for Trust Inns, a pub company with around 400 outlets nationwide.

"By changing with the times and focusing on creating a customer-centric approach, we continue to support our customers in meeting industry demands. Our expansion and investment in new dedicated facilities sets out the roadmap for future success, affirming the course for our 2020 growth strategy," Gill added.

Tradeteam recently celebrated its 20th anniversary with a new livery design.

It employs 1,750 people across 29 sites nationwide.
