Chablis Wine Competition winners revealed

Published:  18 January, 2016

The 30th annual Chablis Wine Competition, held on January 16 in the village of Chablis, saw 27 wines from the iconic region take home medals.

Some 315 wines from 81 producers were entered into the competition this year.

The wines were judged by 80 tasters, including journalists, restaurateurs, sommeliers, traders, enologists, and wine lovers.

Under the rules of the competition, local producers and négociants cannot take part in the judging.

The winning wines will become ambassadors for Chablis over the coming year, and will be featured by the Bureau Interprofessionnel de Vins de Bourgogne in its promotional and training events both domestically and abroad.

American wine critic and founder of Burghound.com, Allen Meadows was president of the event this year.

Meadows said: "I've been a great fan of Chablis wines for ages. Indeed it was these wines which helped introduce me to the whites from the Côte d'Or.

"I bought a bottle in 1973, and it was a revelation.  Since then I have been an unconditional fan."

The gold medal winners were:

Petit Chablis 2014 - Domaine Jean Dauvissat Père & Fils, Milly-Chablis

Chablis 2014 - Agnès & Didier Dauvissat, Beine
