Thornbridge links with Finnish drinks company to open craft beer bar in Helsinki

Published:  18 August, 2015

Derbyshire-based craft brewer Thornbridge is planning to open a bar in the Finnish capital Helsinki.

The move follows the opening of an on-trade venue by rival craft brewer Brewdog in the city last year.

Thornbridge is searching for a site and hopes to open its bar by the end of 2015. It will operate as Thornbridge@Helsinki.

It is working on the project with its Finnish importer Brew Seeker and that company's parent Captol Invest. Local entrepreneur Mikki Nyman will run the bar as part of a Captol project called Mybar to link on-trade operators and suppliers.

Thornbridge managing director Jim Harrison said: "We have been delighted at the great reception our beers have had in Finland and we have really enjoyed working alongside our partners there to provide a wide range of beers in top quality condition.

"The prospect of a bar in Helsinki, and working with Mikki and the team to make this a great Thornbridge experience, is something that we are really looking forward to."

Teemu Lehto, Captol's chief executive officer, described it as "an exciting project working together with one of the most innovative and exciting breweries in the world".

Nyman added: "The pub will have a great selection of beers, including special brews from Thornbridge on a regular basis.

"Our intention is to have a modern approach to the classical British pub in our interior design and offering."

Captol is a drinks importer, Horeca operator and craft brewer with turnover approaching €50 million.
