Japanese-owned Scotch whisky distillery Tomatin has released the first limited batch of a 36-year-old expression, but said it would be an ongoing fixture in its range with more batches to follow.
Tomatin 36 Year Old has been vatted from whisky from ex-Bourbon and ex-oloroso sherry casks and only 800 bottles are being released initially, bottled at a natural cask strength of 46% abv.
Each bottle comes in a wooden box, is individually numbered and has a certificate of authentication.
Sales director Stephen Bremner said: "We are in a unique position to be able to offer a product of this age on an ongoing basis.
"Following the withdrawal of our renowned 30-year-old expression, we expect this new 36 Year Old to be a welcome addition for stockists."
The first release will have an rrp of £499.99.
Tomatin is owned by Japan's Takara Shuzo and was historically a producer of spirit for the blended whisky market, but has recently focused on building its own malt brand.
