Matthew Clark to distribute Catalan wine Herencia Altés

On-trade wholesaler Matthew Clark has added Catalan wine Herencia Altés, previously distributed by Liberty Wines, to its portfolio.

Based in the Denominación de Origen of Terra Alta, in the southeastern corner of Catalonia, close to Navarra and Aragón, Herencia Altés specialises in old vine Garnacha Negra and and Blanca.

In the past 12 months the wine brand has made significant investment, including buying 11ha of old vines, building a modern hi-tech winery and appointing a new winemaking team.

Herencia Altés co-owner Rafael De Haan said: "We are delighted to announce the appointment of Matthew Clark as our exclusive agent in the UK. Their commitment to a quality-led portfolio with a strong focus on Spain, combined with their unparalleled national reach convinced us that our brand would be well looked-after in their hands."

Matthew Clark's Spanish portfolio was named as Best Wholesaler for Spain at last year's Harpers Spanish Wine Awards.

The full range of Herencia Altés wines will be available to taste exclusively at Matthew Clark's Discover the Unexpected tasting which takes place on March 18 at London's Tobacco Dock.
