Published:  09 December, 2011

The Wine Society has announced Tim Sykes, will take over from Sebastian Payne MW as head of buying.

Sykes will lead the Wine Society's buying department team, including the five other buyers, Mark Buckenham, Joanna Locke MW, Pierre Mansour, Toby Morrhall and Marcel Orford-Williams.

Sykes's role as buying director at Enotria made him perfectly placed for the post, as he has worked for many years with the Wine Society's buying team and already has direct relationships with several of its suppliers.

Payne has been with the Wine Society for 38 years and at the head of the buying team for 26.

While stepping back from the lead role, he is looking forward to continuing to buy from many interesting areas.

Sarah Evans, chairman of The Wine Society, says: "We very much welcome Tim to our team and are confident that his understanding of The Wine Society and our ethos, combined with his experience, expertise and dynamic approach will ensure that the Society remains at the forefront of the country's wine merchants."
