Nautilus Estate adds duo to its Pinot Noir collection

Family-owned Marlborough winery Nautilus Estate has extended its portfolio with two Pinot Noirs.

The new Clay Hills Vineyard Pinot Noir 2014 and Awatere River Vineyard Pinot Noir 2014 are available now to the independent on and off-trade (rsp: £35), and is distributed exclusively by Negociants in the UK.

The single vineyard wines perfectly displayed the type of characters that would be expected from the Clay Hills and Awatere River Vineyards, said winemaker and winery manager Clive Jones, adding they showed a "sense of place and seriousness" that would reward "serious pinot-philes" and collectors looking for wines to cellar.

Established in 1985, Nautilus Estate's Pinot Noir journey began twenty years ago and it now claims to be one of the leading producers of the variety in Marlborough, with the winery owning sites where vines are a minimum of fifteen years old.

"An accumulation of many years' experience working with these specific parcels of fruit, has led to an ever greater understanding of the distinctive character and potential of each site," said Jones.

In 2014 a small allocation of wines from their estate-owned Clay Hills and Awatere River Vineyards was produced. This is in addition to the multi-vineyard Southern Valleys Pinot Noir.
