Tesco has introduced a premium selection of old-world wines under its Finest own-label brand.
The ten-strong collection, available across the retailer's stores and online now, has been created in collaboration with world-renowned producers. Priced between £7 and £20 but positioned as "luxury", the portfolio had been developed to give customers a chance to discover "top quality wines at exceptional prices", said Tesco.
The range, which focuses on classic French and Italian styles, alongside some more unusual and upcoming regions, comprises Faugeres 2015; Lambrusco DOC NV; Valpolicella Ripasso 2014; St Emilion Grand Cru 2011; Barbera d'Alba 2013; Margaux 2011; Mercurey Rouge 'Selection Georges' 2015; Gailac Perle 2016' Minervois La Liviniere 2015 and Vire Clesse 2015.
The wines would tap into the large number of customers looking for "terrific wine" to celebrate a special occasion, or to be an interesting talking point at the dinner table, said Tesco MW, James Davis.
"We believe we've found some real hidden gems amongst some brilliant classics," he said.
The bottles feature a different design to the existing range, with a silver shield on the front of the label to reflect the "quality of the wine inside", and make them easy to identify.
In a bid to encourage trial, Tesco has rolled out part of the range in single-serve 187ml bottles.
The launch, which marks the latest stage of Tesco's strategy to develop its wine range by improving the quality, selection and availability and simplify the pricing of its own-label offerings, grows Tesco Finest label to 96 wines.
