Coonawarra winery Reschke has partnered with independent distributor The Vintner to push its wines in the UK
A key selection of premium wines from the family-owned winery, including Reschke's hero aged Empyrean 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon; Reschke Vitulus Cabernet Sauvignon 2011 and Reschke Bull Trader Cabernet Merlot 2008, will be available in the country from May this year.
Going against the mainstream trend in Australia for releasing young wines, Reschke's portfolio is produced with a strong emphasis on ageing in the barrel before releasing, said Reschke, adding the wines also offered "exceptional value".
The vines used to produce the drinks were meticulously hand pruned and yields often restricted to less than two tonnes to the acre in a bid to consistently produce "outstanding fruit", he said.
The UK premium restaurant market was "key" for Reschke as its wines went "exceptionally" well with food, said Burke Reschke - fourth generation of the Reschke family, adding The Vintner showed a promising and dynamic range of on-trade clients, as well as having a "highly professional and passionate team".
The Vintner wine buyer Gavin Smith said the partnership was a "great opportunity" for the distributor to offer wines from Australia that were "beautifully aged" and showed the full capacity of what could be achieved in Coonawarra.
"We pride ourselves on selling wines only when they are ready to drink and in their optimum drinking window."
