31st LIWF prepares to open its doors

The 31st London International Wine Fair and Distil is preparing to open to the trade for three days of tastings, events and debate, from tomorrow May 17, at ExCeL.

Tomorrow's events include: Taking the Plunge with Social Media which will focus on how best to maximize the use of popular social networking tools such as Twitter and Facebook, and why they've become the most popular wine communication tools in today's world. 12.30pm in the Access Zone.

Lebanese Wines with Tim Atkin MW and Lebanese wine expert, Michael Karam. Atkin will pick his top wines from eight different wineries in a tutored tasting showcasing the different styles, grape varieties and terroirs and Lebanese wine expert Michael Karam will explain Lebanon's rich winemaking history. 1:45pm - 2:30pm in the Masterclass Theatre.

Plus "Top Sommelier in the US", Matt Stamp MS, along with Jason McAuliffe from Galvin Bistrot de Luxe, will be discussing the difference between the US and European markets, their favourite wines and the key issues affecting the on-trade in the US. Stamp and McAuliffe: On-trade Trends takes place 11.00am in the Sommelier Theatre.

Other news includes the cancellation of the London Underground tube strikes and the Docklands Light Railway has increased its number of carriages by 50% for visitors to the fair.
