Published:  21 April, 2011

The Isle of Arran distillery has reported a record high in sales results of 27% for 2010, prompting the business to expand its production by 40%.

A relative newcomer to the industry, the distillery opened its doors in June 1995 and is the first legal distillery on Arran since 1836.

It said brand sales have also been strong, growing by 42% year on year and export sales for the business are up 45%.

Sales of The Arran Malt in France have also been reported a notable success growing by 86% and other marked gains have been made in Canada and Taiwan, whilst the brand outperforms more established rivals in Norway.

Managing director, Euan Mitchell, said: "We are delighted to report record results that are a testament to the strength of the business created and the commitment to a long-term sustainable operation.

"What is most exciting about the progress we have made is that we now have the platform to create a whisky brand that enjoys outstanding consumer appeal and commercial success."

The results prompted the business to expand production by 40% to 100,000 litres in 2011. Total production will be 350,000 litres of pure alcohol.
