Islay sales boost Morrison Bowmore

Published:  13 July, 2010

Morrison Bowmore Distillers has reported a 7% increase in pre-tax profit to £3.8 million in 2009.

Group turnover was 6% ahead at £39.3 million.

The company saw a 12% increase in sales of the Bowmore Isaly malt brand and a 2% rise in sales of Auchentoshan.

Sales of Suntory Japanese whiskies, which Morrison Bowmore handles in the UK and rest of Europe, grew "rapidly" said the company.

Chief executive Mike Keiller said: "Turnover was up on last year reflecting the growth in our single malt business, against the overall decline of this segment of the market.

"The company continues to focus on building its single malt whisky brands and investment in recent years is starting to pay off with significant growth despite the difficult economic conditions."
