New Right Bank association

Published:  23 July, 2008

One hundred and twenty Right Bank Bordeaux chteaux have joined forces to create a new association to promote 'quality and professional ethical standards' in the region. The Cercle Rive Droite de Grands Vins de Bordeaux (Right Bank Circle of Great Bordeaux Wines) boasts members from 16 appellations, including: Pomerol, St-Emilion Grand Cru, Ctes de Blaye, de Bourg, de Castillon and Canon-Fronsac. A 'code of professional ethics' is shared by the chteaux, which imposes requirements in the areas of crop yield control, vineyard preservation, ageing of wine and harvesting. The circle is also holding an extra tasting of the previous vintage in the autumn of each year, in addition to the traditional spring en primeur event. The members have elected Alain Raynaud of Chteau Quinault l'Enclos as president and winemaker Alain Moueix as vice-president.
