MILLION DOLLAR CHARDONNAY CHALLENGE IS CANCELLED

The University of British Columbia, Canada has announced that its Chardonnay of the Century Million Dollar Challenge has been cancelled, due to the economic climate reigning since September last year'. Hennie van Vuuren, professor at the university's Faculty of Agricultural Sciences' Wine Research Centre, said: It has proven impossible to raise the required level of sponsorship and entry support to assure a viable and credible competition.' In thanking contributors and participants who had signed up for the event, Professor van Vuuren said: We have every intention of revisiting the idea of using a competition to attract outstanding wines for research.'
