France will fall behind Spain in wine production

Published:  23 July, 2008

France will fall behind Spain in the wine production stakes by 2015, according to a new report.

A study by Credoc, the French independent wine producer body, predicted French wine will decrease from the current annual figure of 52.8m hectolitres to 43.9m hectolitres a year in 2015.

The figures stated it would be Spain that overtakes France as the primary global wine producer, the Telegraph reports.

Falling domestic consumption of wine, especially red, was the cause of the issue in France.

French exports have also been falling due to a greater share of New World wines being purchased in the European Market.
