Stuart Nettleford has taken over from Alison Williams as chief executive at Wine Industry Tasmania.
Williams has been at the helm since the formation of the industry body in 2006.
Tasmania is positioned to perform well in 2008 with its cool-climate wines bypassing the drought problems being faced by other Australian regions, Nettleford said.
He told ABC News: "A lot of those mainland areas are facing big issues with drought and climate change so I think from Tasmania's point of view that's certainly one advantage we can play on in that again, sort of focussing on that cool climate super premium positioning.
"I believe already for 2008 it's looking like a bumper vintage.
"For example the estimate at the moment is it is going to be the biggest ever of 7,000 tonnes, and that compares to 2007 where the production was just over 5,000 tonnes, so that's nearly a 40 per cent increase."
