Scotch distillery to be bought out

Published:  23 July, 2008

Glenglassaugh distillery, which manufactures the Famous Grouse whisky brand, looks set to be sold to an investment group.

A consortium including several Russian businessmen wants to buy The Edrington Group's distillery for between 2 million and 3 million.

It is thought the company will proceed with the sale following approaches from three separate parties.

An Edrington spokesman told the Daily Telegraph: "I can confirm that Edrington has received a number of enquiries which may or may not lead to a formal offer."

Should the deal go ahead, a further 2m-3m would be needed to revitalise production at the distillery following its closure in 1986.

Glenglassaugh distillery, which also produces the Macallan whisky brand, was built in 1874 and the deal would create around ten new jobs.
