Jefford takes title for second year running

Published:  23 July, 2008

Andrew Jefford told Harpers he was "rather embarrassed" after winning the Louis Roederer wine writer of the year for the second year in a row.

He took the prize for articles written for Waitrose Food Illustrated and Decanter.

He said: "Winning was the last thing on my mind becuase I won last year. It was a big surprise."

It is a week of double celebration for Jefford with his wife giving birth to an, as yet, unnamed second son. He joked: "Perhaps we should call it Roederer".

Australian wine writer James Halliday took the International Book of the Year 2007 while the award for best wine guide went to Philip van Zyl for the John Platter South African Wine Guide.
