Call for Government to take lead on carbon off setting

Published:  23 July, 2008

A Parliamentary committee has urged the Government to lead the carbon off-setting debate and provide clear messages to individuals and businesses.

The Environmental Audit Committee, chaired by Tim Yeo MP, said the public was confused what 'carbon neutral' means and should provide guidance to the British public.

It also recommended that the Government incentivise businesses and individuals to offset their carbon emissions.

The report admitted there were many divergent opinions on the role of voluntary offsetting but gave it its full backing.
