HOT: On the town

Published:  23 July, 2008

The bold and the beautiful were out in all their glory (or otherwise) at this month's launch of Dune, the latest bar and restaurant to hit Piccadilly. The invitation said to dress decadent', and although this was interpreted as smart casual' by the boring majority, there were a few daring souls who took extravagance to a new and sometimes frightening level. One such lady couldn't seem to make up her mind whether she was intended for Stringfellows or Ascot.

The biggest change since the takeover from Osia is that the restaurant at the front is now a bar, and the bar at the back is now a restaurant. Good thinking here: it's much more fun to open with the bar. The cocktail list is the work of internationally renowned cocktail maestros' Douglas Ankrah and Richard Hargroves, and the free bar on the launch night was an excellent excuse to try to get through as much of the list as possible without falling over. This was made particularly challenging when the canaps ran out after the first half hour. The day-to-day menu is Mediterranean, and the corridor leading through to the restaurant is a showcase for fine wine, including the personal collection of co-owner and hotel-and-restaurant consultant Majid Elghzal. The other partner is investment banker Yassir Zenagui.
