Bibendum’s Irish operations transfer to Walker & Wodehouse in C&C shake-up

Published:  03 September, 2018

Bibendum has offloaded its European operations, meaning a transfer of responsibility for the company’s business in Ireland.

Bibendum Europe operated a small distribution to the continent, which accounted for around 2% of Bibendum PLB’s overall business.

It also looked after the company’s customers in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland as a matter of efficiency and convenience.

Ireland as a whole will now be taken over by the company’s specialist merchant and off-trade arm Walker & Wodehouse, which Harpers believes will also deal with Bibendum’s on-trade accounts.

There will be no impact on customers in England, Scotland or Wales, the company said, adding that it wanted to “focus exclusively on our core customers in the UK and Republic of Ireland who represent 98% of our business”.

Harpers believes the move is part of an on-going review into the business, following the sale of Matthew Clark and Bibendum PLB to Magners owner C&C Group from Convivality back in April.

C&C teamed up with brewing giant AB InBev for the sale, before welcoming back Michael Saunders into the role of CEO.
