Bolney Wine Estate has claimed a market first with the launch of a Sussex Rosso Vermouth.
The new fortified wine, which marks the second Sussex Vermouth following Albourne Estate’s Vermouth, 40 launch earlier this month, features distinctive flavour profiles from the botanicals growing in Bolney’s own vineyard hedgerows.
As the first English Vineyard to create red wine commercially, Bolney said it was “second nature” to put that experience to good use in creating a "quality Rosso".
“After more than 20 years of successfully making English wines, I fancied turning my hand to creating a new drink, but one still closely connected to Bolney’s wine making traditions,” said MD and head winemaker, Sam Linter, who made the tipple together with fellow winemaker Alex Rabagliati.
The drink, which is available from next week to coincide with the London Wine Fair, is made with the sloes and elderberries that go to waste at Bolney each year together with some of Bolney’s surplus grape juice.
