Berry Bros & Rudd has claimed a UK retail first with the introduction of the Helix closure.
The closure, a cork-glass wine packaging solution which was unveiled to the trade in 2013, has been adopted by South African winery Anthonij Rupert to seal its Protea wine range, with the winery’s latest Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay vintage available from Berry Bros now sealed with Helix.
The launch formed part of Berry Bros strategy to “embrace the latest trends and innovations”, said wine buyer Katherine Dart MW.
“The ergonomically-designed cork together with threads inside the bottle neck ensure an airtight seal and enable effortless opening with a light twist. The bottle is resealable but unlike the screwcap, you still get the all-important cork-out-the-bottle ‘pop’ and it’s also great for reusing and upcycling for anything from water to olive oil,” she said.
The result of four years of research and development and incorporating 21st century design with the traditional natural cork closure, the Helix closure - developed by Amorim, had since launch proven popular across Europe and the US, said the cork producer.
“We are delighted that Helix, with its convenient ease-of-opening, and 100% sustainable cork benefits, can now be enjoyed and appreciated by UK consumers," said marketing director Carlos de Jesus.
Helix has also been adopted by Virgin Atlantic Airways.
