Wines of Spain unveils new Caballeros for 2018

Published:  12 March, 2018

Wines of Spain has unveiled two new Caballeros for 2018 - Peter Dauthieu and Marisol Bueno.

The duo, which was formally invested into the Order by His Excellency D. Carlos Bastarreche, the Ambassador of Spain and Sr. D. Javier Serra, director general ICEX at the Gran Orden de Caballeros’ Annual Dinner, takes the total number of members to 64 from both Spain and the UK.

Established in 1984, the Gran Orden recognises those who have “acted over and above the call of duty” in their promotion of Spanish wines.

Having become a winemaker in 1979 when she started her first plantation of Albariño, Bueno’s achievements include being appointed president of the Regulatory Board for Albariño in 1986 as a recognition of her efforts and dedication to the wine.

Her broad vision of the quality and promising future of this wine led the board to change its name to Rías Baixas Regulatory Board, obtaining Denomination of Origin status in 1989.

In addition, Bueno founded her own winery in 1989, Pazo de Señorans.

Dauthier, who passed the Wine and Spirit Education Trust Diploma in 1998 and four years on obtained his Post-Graduate MBA in wine from the Bordeaux Business School, has over the years held various positions and responsibilities involved with Spanish wines, having started out as a vintage trainee in Bordeaux in 1995.

The following year he joined UK importer Ehrmanns, where he remained, in a number of roles, until 2001, when he moved to Jerez to join Ehrmanns sister company Viniberia SA from here he relocated to La Rioja, where he was the international director for CVNE’s three wineries for six years.

In 2009 he returned to Viniberia Fine Wines from Spain, where he is currently managing director.

The significance for Spain of the Gran Orden and of the investiture dinner was highlighted at the event by the presence of The Spanish Ambassador, who congratulated the Orden for its sustained support of the Spanish wine industry.
