Australia Day Tasting returns with special guest

Published:  20 December, 2017

The annual Australia Day Tasting (ADT) returns to the UK in January in its usual slot – but this year will feature a special guest.

This year the event’s CEO Andreas Clark will be heading over from Australia to host a media briefing in London on 23 January before the first ADT.

He will be joined by a number of Aussie winemakers and winery owners including the likes of Andrew Hardy (Petaluma), Christian Dal Zotto (Dal Zotto), Damian North (Journey Wines) and Jeremy Dineen (Josef Chromy) who will be flying over to pour their wines.

The Australia Day Tasting - the largest trade tasting of Australian wine outside Australia – is back for a three-day roadshow in London (23 January), Edinburgh (25 January) and Dublin (29 January).

Once again, the trade is invited to discover new and established names spanning 1200 wines from 245 wineries, including 20 producers that are seeking first-time distribution in the UK.

With a geographical size similar to Europe, UK consumers have lapped up Australian wines over the past 15 years, during which time it has reigned as the number one country of origin in the off-trade with 23% market share.

Australia is third in the on-trade behind France and Italy.

In terms of exports, the UK is the biggest volume market for Australian wine.

In the 12 months to September 2017, 225 million litres were shipped to the UK placing it ahead of the USA (181 million litres) and mainland China (132 million litres).
