Tesco is launching historic Hungarian wine Talisman Bull’s Blood into the UK market via a partnership with distributor Copestick Murray.
This week, the UK’s largest wine retailer will launch the “rich” and contemporary wine in stores nationally and online with the hope of widening the wines appeal to a UK audience.
Tesco said the launch is a continuation of an 18-month push to develop the breadth of its wine range.
Bull’s Blood, or Egri Bikavér as it is formally known, is one of Hungary’s flagship wines and could date back as far as 1552.
The retailer has worked with Copestick Murray, which have established links in Eastern European wines, to develop new range under the Talisman brand in the hopes of elevating the “relatively low awareness” of this wine in the UK.
Tesco wine buyer Jennifer Shaw, said: “In line with growing trends, we are excited to be expanding our range of Eastern European wines with Copestick Murray. I’m sure the story and quality of Talisman Bull’s Blood will be popular with our customers, and we’re pleased to be able to offer more choice in this category.”
Robin Copestick, managing director at Copestick Murray added: “We are very excited to be working in collaboration with Tesco to launch Talisman Bull’s Blood to the UK market. We have given this fantastic wine a mystical and stylish design to make it more appealing and relevant to a wider audience.”
Copestick Murray worked with Törley, one of Hungary’s oldest wineries, to develop the wine, which carries a RRP of £6.
