Murano - the Gordon Ramsey group restaurant has been voted London's best new restaurant according to a new survey carried out in association with Rémy Martin.

Presided over by Angela Hartnett, Murano will receive the Rémy Martin VSOP award for London's Best Newcomer of the year.

Eight-thousand restaurant-goers were questioned for the new edition of Harden's London Restaurants and Ramsey's former protégé Marcus Wareing's restaurant at the Berkeley Hotel maintaining its position as London's best undoubted top restaurant, which was first gained last year.

Ramsey's group restaurants didn't perform so well and accounted for four of the top ten positions of most disappointing cooking and three out of ten were voted as being the most overpriced restaurant - which included the group's flagship Chelsea restaurant.

Bruce Poole's Chez Bruce was voted Londoners' favourite restaurant for the fifth consecutive year, with the big riser being Scott's in Mayfair.

The Wolseley, the Bleeeding Heart and The Don were voted Best for Business, in first, second and third places respectively.

Guide co-editor Peter Harden said: "Angela Hartnett is to be congratulated, and Murano's success shows the Ramsey group still has what it takes.

"The year's survey results, though, confirm that there are some very deep seated problems in the group, and we have to hope that Murano's success markes a real turning point.

"All eyes will now turn to Pétrus, Ramsey's forthcoming fine dining restaurant shortly to be reborn in Belgravia.

"An undoubted success there would really confirm that the green shoots of a true Ramsey recovery were starting to show through."
