RumFest aims to break rum tasting world record

RumFestRumFest hopes to smash records for the world's biggest-ever rum tastingA host of big-name speakers from the world of rum will aslo attend the event, which runs from October 10 to 12 at London's ILEC centre.

RumFest organiser and global rum ambassador Ian Burrell will handpick the rums up for tasting, and the event will be officially adjudicated by Guinness World Record officials.

There will also be a host of industry experts on hand to give talks and seminars, including Serralles' master distiller Roberto Seralles, Appleton's Master Blender Joy Spence and Angostura's Master Distiller John Georges.

Representing Jamaica, Appleton's Rum will be sipped alongside commentary from Master Blender, Joy Spence, whilst Puerto Rico's number one premium rum from the Serralles distillery, Don Q, will be savoured with Master Distiller, Roberto Seralles on hand. Pusser's Rum, launched in 1655, will be presented by head of rum procurement George Freegard. Trinidad's Angostura will bring Master Distiller John Georges and Cuban's classic Havana Club will be presented by its Master Blender Asbel Morales Lorenzo. The finale to the evening will be Venezuela's Diplomatico providing a taste of South America with its rum master, Tito Cordero.

This is the eighth year of RumFest, and this year the event includes the trade-only Boutique RumFest October 10. 

The Boutique RumFest, on day one of the show, gives the trade and pressthe chance to meet and taste rums from emerging distilleries, find new products, talk to importers and brands owners. It will also feature a series of specialist rum forums for the first time. Sessions will cover topics such as importing rum hosted by The Cocktail Lovers and a debate on the premiumisation of rum hosted by the owner of the Smuggler's Cove brand, Martin Cate.

RumFest allows consumers and trade the chance to taste over 400 different rums from around the world, with tastings running from 12 pm- 6 pm daily.

RumFest runs from October 10 to 12 at London's ILEC Conference Centre at Ibis, Earls Court. Tickets are priced £10.
