Harpers Awards announces its finalists for 2014

Published:  28 April, 2014

Restaurants, bars, sommeliers, multiple grocers, drinks websites, independent wine merchants, suppliers and brand owners will all come together on June 2 in the hope of winning a trophy at the Harpers Awards 2014.

The finalists for the 2014 Harpers Awards are announced this morning and are a roll call of some of the biggest names in the UK wine and spirits retail and hospitality sectors. Tesco, Morrisons, Waitrose and Aldi will be vying for the major multiple retail awards along with specialist players such as the Whisky Shop.

The awards will also see leading independent retailers such as Cambridge Wine Merchants, Corks Out, Oxford Wine Company, Le Vignoble and Loki Wines competing.

It will also include new awards for online retailing across the multiple, independent and standalone online sectors, including Naked and Virgin Wines.

The on-trade categories see newcomers such as The Chiltern Firehouse, Merchants Tavern and the Remedy Bar competing for Launch of the year.

Other major on-trade names up for a Harpers Award include Vinoteca, Byron, The Connaught, Grain Store, Burger & Lobster and The Harwood Arms.

The on-trade personality of the year will feature Richard Bigg of Camino, Scott Collins founder of Meat Liquor and Charlie Young and Brett Woonton of Vinoteca.

The Harpers Awards are unique in the industry in that they bring all channels of the trade together to celebrate success right across the wine and spirits, retailer, supplier and hospitality sectors.

All will be revealed on June 2 when the awards ceremony takes place at a new venue for the event, London's Hurlingham Club, a short trip from the London Wine Fair taking place that week at its new home in Olympia.
