After just eight months in the job, Ed Goodman is to leave his position as head of Marks & Spencer's wine department to take up a position as head of the retailer's celebrations' department. Goodman, who famously swapped his place at the head of the retailer's plants and flowers department with ex-wine boss Jane Masters MW last year, has been replaced by ex-ASDA/Wal-Mart buyer James Leeson, who has ten years of retailing experience, including a three-year stint in the US. Ed has done an excellent job in the wine department and has brought in a fresh approach to a really important part of the business,' said M&S spokeswoman Viv Jowatt. As a result of that he's been promoted to celebrations, which is really the heart of the M&S business, covering events like Christmas and Mother's Day. It's great to have someone like James, who is new to the business but has great experience of retailing in the UK and the US, to replace him. He will bring a lot of new ideas.'
