London to host a day to celebrate 25 years of Albariño

Published:  20 September, 2013

Anyone interested in finding out more about Albariño, arguably Spain's most fashionable white grape variety, should head to a 'mini fair' and master class in London being held on November 25 to mark the 25th anniversary of the grape's production.

Albariño has grown increasingly popular particularly amongst the independent on and off-trades as consumers latch on to the fresh characterstics of the grape that comes from the D.O Rias Baixas region on Spain's Atlantic coastline.

The D.O was first formed in 1988 and the UK now represents its second largest export market accounting for 10% of the global market with sales going from six to 60,000 9l cases in the last 25 years.

"Rias Baixas Wines are right on trend at the moment," said Eva Minguez Lobato, marketing director for the region. "Consumers really appreciate the style and flavour profile and the versatility to pair with international cuisine."

The Rías Baixas Mini Fair, which is invitation only, takes place on November 25 at The River Room, Glaziers Hall, SE1, between 10am and 5pm.
