Drinks brands go head to head in Harpers Design Awards 2013

Passers-by may not have realised but leading wine and spirits brands were going head to head yesterday at Jamie Hutchinson's The Sampler South Kensignton venue for the judging of the 2013 Harpers Design Awards.

The awards saw entries from across all areas of alcoholic drinks from wines, spirits, beers, ciders and Champagnes as leading international design agencies, producers, distillers and major drinks companies put their work on the line in the hope of attracting the judges' attention.

Categories in this year's awards included wine range of the year, best red wine design, white wine design, rosé, Champagne, sparkling, beers and ciders, dark spirits, white spirits, as well as categories to highlight the latest innovations in limited editions and special packaging. The awards also looked this year at recognising brand development in emerging categories such as wine-based drinks.

The judges for the 2013 awards included Jamie Hutchinson and Christina Holzer at the Sampler; brand development consultant, Mark Fiddes of Yourbrandsquared; publishing design expert, Simon Esterson, founder of Esterson Assciates, who has helped to design Harpers as well as national newspapers and magazines including The Guardian and New Statesman; social media and marketing consultant, Bernadette Costello of Costello Media; Richard Siddle, editor of Harpers; Christine Freeman, art editor of Harpers; Erin Smith, business reporter, Harpers, and MSc student at the Burgundy School of Business.

The full list of medal winners will be announced in the August 16 issue of Harpers.
