Robert Mondavi, founder of the eponymously named winery and unofficial father of the Californian wine industry', has stepped down from the board of the family business. He will retain the title of Chairman Emeritus'. His retirement, at the age of 90, marks the end of an era. In his time in the business, Mondavi has seen the Napa Valley grow from a marginal agricultural area to one of the world's most famous - and expensive - wine regions.
