Luxury Norfolk hotel Congham Hall has replaced its paper wine list with an interactive iPad menu.
The iPads use a sommelier app from software firm iRiS which shows information about the wine, vineyard and vintage and allow diners to search by grape, colour, region and price. The app also allows diners to create a shortlist to discuss with sommeliers and can be updated instantly to remove unavailable wines or to make recommendations.
"I was nervous about whether our guests would appreciate our wine list being on an iPad but it has been unanimously well received," said managing director Nicholas Dickinson.
Jason Jefferys, CEO of iRiS Software Systems said: "With people of all ages now using iPads and other devices, and we are seeing a rapid rise in demand for this type of technology in hospitality. Our food and beverage application has driven increases in wine revenue per cover of up to 46%, with up to 150% increase in premium wine sales, so the commercial benefits are enormous."
Congham Hall was named best small hotel in the 2012-2013 international hotel awards.
