Sotheby's latest Finest and Rarest Wines auction surpassed expectations as investors and wealthy individuals battled it out for bottles of Château Haut-Brion and La Mission Haut-Brion.
The sale in London on February 27 brought in a total of £685,825 - higher than the pre-sale estimate of £519,590 to £645,660.
The auction was 98.2% sold by lot and 98.4% sold by value.
The top selling lot was six bottles of Montrachet 1993 Domaine de la Romanée Conti, which went to an Asian buyer for £21,150.
"There was strong competition for Châteaux Haut-Brion and La Mission Haut Brion from an aristocratic cellar, as well as for mature vintages of First Growths and other Classed Growth Bordeaux, and Burgundy from top growers such as DRC, Dugat-Puy, Leflaive and Rousseau.
"We look forward to our next sales in Hong Kong - The elBullicellar and The Classic Cellar from a Great American Collector XI on 3rd April and Finest and Rarest Wines featuring wines direct from Vega Sicilia on 4th April," said Stephen Mould, head of Sotheby's European wine department.
The next sale in London will be held on April 17
